February 26, 2015

Dear Parents,

It is with disappointment that I write you to inform you that due to a doctor's request for the health of my pregnancy I am unable to continue teaching as long as I had hoped.  My last teaching day will be Friday this week.  Rest will serve me and the baby well, but this will be a very difficult transition for me as I have loved every minute teaching such a wonderful, thoughtful, and caring group of students.  They amaze me with their talents every single day.

This group of children has been a remarkable group to teach.  I will miss their smiles and eagerness to learn!  I will miss each and every one of my students while I am away on maternity leave, but I trust that they will continue to thrive and meet their fullest potential.  I am also confident that the students will make a smooth adjustment with transition to a new teacher because they are wonderful and adaptable kids.

I will still be completing your child’s report card that will go home on March 13th.  During my maternity leave, I will continue to connect with the class to keep updated on how they are doing.   I will try to pop in from time to time to visit during special events and to introduce them to the new baby when he arrives.  Your child is welcome to email me (corrina.barker@lethsd.ab.ca) if they would like to keep in touch.

It has been a great pleasure getting to know your child these past months and I look forward to hearing of their successes throughout the remainder of the school year!  Parents, thank you for your support throughout this school year as well.  It is greatly appreciated.  As well, thank you for helping support your child in this time of transition.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Barker

Skating

Reminder that we are going skating tomorrow from 1:00 – 2:15 pm.

If your child has skates and a helmet please make sure that they bring them to school in the morning.  If they only have skates they will be able to borrow a helmet at the arena.  Kids cannot skate in any helmet except an approved hockey helmet (absolutely no bike helmets are allowed).

If they are playing hockey they will need to have all the approved hockey gear for safety reasons (hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, elbow pads, neck guard and stick).

Thank you.

Skating Feb 26th

Dear Parents:

The Grade 3 team has decided to take the kids skating on FEBRUARY 26, 2015. We will be going to Nicholas Sheran Ice Arena. We have the ice from 1:00 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. Nicholas Sheran specifies that ALL children must be wearing a hockey helmet and that bicycle helmets will NOT be accepted. They DO have extra helmets should your child need to borrow one.

Also we will portion off a small hockey area again for hockey play but we are requiring the following in order for the children to participate safely; hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, elbow pads, neck guard, and stick. We will not be able to allow parents to participate in the game play in order for this to be a safe activity. All these conditions are according to board policy.

In order for every child to be transported to the ice arena, we will need to have parent volunteers. Please know that you are encouraged to skate and if you have younger children that would like to participate, we fully support and encourage that as well. Siblings are also required to wear hockey helmets and parents are encouraged to wear a hockey helmet on the ice surface.

We will be leaving the school at 12:45 in order to be at the rink and ready to get on the ice by 1:00. If you are volunteering to drive, please be at the school by 12:45. We will be getting off the ice at 2:15 and we will be returning to the school around 2:30.

Please return the bottom portion of the skating letter to your child’s teacher by Friday, February 13th.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's day party is happening on Friday this week.

There will be centers in the morning and a party after recess.

If your child is bringing in Valentine’s cards they need to make sure that they have one for EVERY student in the class.

Class Service Project

Dear Parents:

All classes at MMH are doing a service project for the community.  Our class has decided to give books to the sick children at the Lethbridge hospital.

By Friday this week please have your child bring in a gently used book in excellent condition, a brand new book (max of 2 books) or a money donation for Mrs. Barker to purchase some books.  The books can be in an age range from baby to teenager.

Thank you giving the gift of reading to the children at the hospital. They will appreciate it so much.
