Learning About Hearing Damage


Today my super smart froggies learned about how hearing damage accumluates over time through the use of "trusty backpacks" as a demonstration tool!!!! This awesome kiddo accumluated a lot of hearing damage through making "unsafe" hearing choices in a story told by Miss. Pickett!
Thanks to this super cool kiddo for being such a great assistant with such strong arms.
Remember to protect your ears because the damage that is done to them over time cannot be reversed!

Great Website!!!


THIS IS A GREAT WEBSITE TO PRACTICE SPELLING WORDS AT HOME.
All you do on the website is type in the spelling words that your child brings home and the website creates practice games using the spelling words. There are so many different ways for your child to practice their spelling words on this site in fun and interactive ways that will make them feel like they are not even practicing spelling!!!
There are activities on Spelling City for alphabetical order, word searches, speedy speller race against the clock, matching games, crosswords....and the list goes on!

YIKES!!!

This spider seriously goes down as the biggest spider I have EVER seen in Lethbridge. Congrats to this super cool kiddo for being brave enough to catch it...and even more brave to bring it in to school to scare Miss. Pickett.
Lesson learned today...Miss. Pickett has a fear of spiders!!! Which the kids found super funny! But I did survive the morning with the spider in the room....it just had to be REALLY FAR away from where I was!!! And someone had to keep checking that it was still in the container!

Terry Fox Walk Cancelled for Tomorrow


Due to the weather forecast for tomorrow we WILL NOT be doing the Terry Fox walk!
We are hoping that the weather will shape up and we may be able to do the walk on Friday morning instead.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help out. You are awesome and I appreciate you being willing to share in the moment with our class. I will be in touch with volunteer parents to let them know if the walk will be taking place on Friday.

It is really too bad that we cannot control the weather because I know that the kids and I were really excited for this event!

Carter is one AMAZING STUDENT! This fabulous kid comes in wearing a smile every day and he is always ready to learn. I can set any challenge in front of Carter and he will take it on like a champion. Carter loves to show his knowledge in math and he is growing into quite the creative writer! I love seeing how Carter is always willing to lend a helping hand to his classmates. He is a superior role model and he has the BEST manners!

Spelling Information


Spelling starts this week. Each week your child will have spelling words listed in their agenda. Spelling words will also always be posted on the blog.
Please take time to practice these spelling words with your child throughout the week.
Kids who score 100% on their spelling test on Friday earn the reward of a scholar dollar.
I also use bonus words with the kids to add a little challenge to the spelling. Sometimes there will be a mystery bonus spelling word and sometimes I will give the kids the bonus word to practice.
If the kids get 100% on their spelling test and the bonus word correct they earn the reward of 2 scholar dollars.

Weekend Challenge Question

A love for reading!!!


I am so proud to have such a crew of readers this year! Reading is something that I love sharing with the kids. I read to the kids daily and I love hearing them read to me. Nothing beats snuggling up with a good book!
Please take the time to read with your child at home for 15 minutes each night. It is a great way to spend some quality family time and the benefits of reading with your child are endless. Reading offers such a neat way of exploring the world and it can lead to some pretty amazing discussions with your child!
When your child has completed their R.A.H chart please send it in to school so they can collect their "reading scholar dollars" and I will send a new chart home with them. The more they read at home...the more money they earn in their wallets! :)

WHO THINKS THEY ARE A SMART COOKIE?

SPELLING STARTS MONDAY


Our classroom spelling program begins on Monday. Every Monday, your child will be coming home with the spelling words listed in their agenda. Please take the time to review these spelling words for about 5 minutes each night.
There will also be a weekly spelling activity sheets that your child will work on in class every Monday and then these sheets will come home with your child to be completed. Thus, there will be spelling homework to be completed each week. All spelling worksheets are due back to school on Friday morning.
All spelling tests will take place on Friday morning.

Scholastic Book Order DUE MONDAY!

I have finally discovered how to comment on BLOG POSTINGS...thanks to some wonderful parents! If you would like to comment on BLOG POSTINGS all you need to do is create a GOOGLE ACCOUNT. When you click on comment under the blog posting you will go to where it says "comment as" and you will need to select google accout, it will then have you sign in and you are free to comment away!
I love reading the comments on things that I put up on the BLOG so please comment away! The feedback is great. If you sign in as a parent, your child may also comment on the postings if they like!

The first week of grade three was an absolute blast! We had so much fun!
I am loving these kids already! I have a lot of OILERS fans which is awesome!
We are going to have a wonderful year in grade three filled with a lot of smiles and laughter.
These students are amazingly hardworkers with such kind hearts and great spirits.
