SPECTACULAR AUTHOR!

The kids have been working hard on creating SUSPENSE in their writing. Here is a great example of a suspense paragraph!

OUSTANDING AUTHOR: LAUREN
Shadows were all over the foggy, dark forest. Crackling sounds covered the bitter forest. SNAP! Dusty twigs covered the ground. The whispering trees said.."you're in DANGER!" The voice faded away in the wind. Heavy breathing crossed my path with mist that lead into a dark path. Paw prints were on the darkest path in the forest. My body quivered as adrenaline rushed through my veins. I turned around in a quick body movement. There was fur that covered trees...the dripping sap was filled with dark brown fur. I saw a fish with teeth marks on the misty path. I froze with fright. I was standing face to face with a huge GRIZZLY BEAR. The bear backed away slowly! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! I was screaming at the top of my lungs. I bolted down the deep, scary forest and never looked back!
Great job Lauren. I am so proud of the risks you take to make your writing so detailed and fancy! You are a gem and I love reading all your amazing creations! Keep it up!!

Author Time!!

I have such an amazing crew of writers! They have been working really hard on writing interesting stories that are full of juicy details to draw in the reader.

The kids get special moments to share their work with Miss. Pickett. I love hearing all the great ideas that the kids create. Their sense of creativity is sure growing.

Here is an example of a very special gals writing. In this story, the kids had to write about discovering a secret door in a basement and through the door they enter a mystery world.

This amazing writer uses expressive details and lots of juicy words to jazz up her writing!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It all started one rainy afternoon. Jack and I were playing video games. Suddenly, my witch-like Auntie called out. "Oh, Cody dear..." she cooed, "please go down to the basement and grab the potatoes." I cringed! Whenever my auntie needed something from me, things would always go so bad. So I slouched down the old hallway and opened the basement door. But there was something different about the basement. The railing was dusty and greasy. There was an old, crinkled rug on the floor. And there were cobwebs EVERYWHERE! I slowly walked down the moist stairs. The stairs cracked under my weight. My right hand shivered as the old railing sent slivers up my skin. I could smell rotten smoke and old food. I heard the basement door open, "What's taking you so long?"Jack asked. "Look at this," I whispered. "A door." "A door? A door? What's so great about a door!" Jack cried, "C'mon, Let's go play!!!"

IMPORTANT PYSANKY LETTER COMING HOME!

NOTICE TO PARENTS!
A very important letter is coming home with your child today regarding traditional pysanky egg decorating. In order to do this activity it is ESSENTIAL that I have parent helpers to assist in the classroom as many things are taking place at one time. The kids will be working with raw eggs, melted bees wax, candles and dye.
It would be great if I could have at least 3 parent helpers per day. The pysanky eggs take quite a while to complete as the kids are using all the traditional tools and methods. Please send back the sheet as soon as possible if you are able to help out on one of the days listed.
Due to the nature of the activity, no younger siblings are able to be involved in the activity.
Thank you for your help! I could not do these great activities without the help of amazing parents like you!
