Important Blog Letter Coming Home.

There is an important blog letter coming home with your child today.

It is regarding the use of pictures of your child on the blog site from different activites in our classroom. The kids will be doing many fun and exciting learning activities in the next few months and it would be nice to document these moments for the kids to see on the blog. The kids have been asking to see pictures of themselves up on the blog for some time now. It is a great way for the kids to feel as sense of ownership and responsibility for their learning.

In order for me to place your child's picture up on the blog the FOIP form that went home at the very beginning of the year needs to be in, so I will be checking for these. I also need you to return the bottom portion of the green letter that I sent home.

Thank you!

Challenge Question - Jan 11th

Miss. Pickett was sitting in her classroom one day after school with nothign to do. She decided to write the whole ALPHABET out 4 times. If Miss. Pickett wrote out all the letters in the alphabet 4 TIMES how many letters did she write altogether?

Let's see who can figure this one out! Good luck MONKEYS!

PROBLEM OF THE WEEK!!

Beginning this week your child will be getting a "problem of the week" sheet to complete at home each week. Problem of the week sheets will go home each Monday and they are due back on Friday each week.

Please feel free to help your child...but please do not simply provide them with the answer. I need to see where the kids are making their mistakes so that I can help them become better problem solvers. If we simply provide the kids with the answer, they do not have to work through the different steps that are required to solve the problem. Thus, MISTAKES ARE OKAY AND THEY PROVIDE GOOD OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING!

It is my goal that that with these "problems of the week" the kids will develop a wide variety of problem solving skills and become confident problem solvers through the use of many different strategies.

BACK TO SPELLING!!!

SCHOLAR DOLLAR SALE - Jan 15th

THE TIME HAS COME FOR THE FIRST SCHOLAR DOLLAR SALE!!!

Your child has been working very hard in the classroom to earn scholar dollars.

The scholar dollar sale is a great learning activity for children because it is a great opportunity for the students to use their knowledge about counting money and making change.

There will be many different items for sale, as I have been collecting many different things. The kids may also purchase coupons for: lunch out with me, making lunch with me at the school, special recesses with me and extra time on the laptop computers.

The kids are very excited for this sale and I am very excited to host the sale as the kids have been working so hard to earn all their scholar dollars.

The sale will be taking place on Friday, Jan 15th.

Please Note: If you have any items (toys, stuffies, books, videos, Cd’s…etc) that you no longer need and that are in good condition you are more than welcome to place them in our class scholar dollar sale. Please send the items to school with your child in a bag that is marked “Scholar Dollar Sale”. IT IS NOT MANDATORY FOR YOU TO SEND IN AN ITEM, IT IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL (…it is just a good way to get rid of items that you may have at home that you no longer need).

Challenge Question - WORTH SCHOLAR DOLLARS

Here you go little monkeys!

Let's see who thinks they are super smart!

Write the all the related facts using the numbers below.

MATH FACTS PRACTICE

Dear Parents:
I would really like the children to spend 5 minutes each night reviewing their addition facts up to 18 and their subtraction facts from 18.
The kids will be using these facts daily in math class and the easier they can pull them from memory the quicker their math computation skills will become.
5 minutes a night of practice will go a long way to helping your child. The kids can do their practice on the computer, using flash cards, playing addition/subrtaction games (using a deck of cards or dice) or doing sheets that you can print off the computer... (www.mathfactcafe.com) is a great website to make up simple sheets. All the practice that your child does can be recorded on their "MATH WHIZ" sheet.
If you would like some extra ideas to use with your child at home for practice please let me know and I will send you some creative math fact practice games.

WELCOME BACK!!

WELCOME TO 2010...it is going to be an interesting and fun filled year!!! I hope everyone had a relaxing Christmas holiday!!
It is great to be back with the fresh start of a new year ahead of us!!! I sure did miss all my crazy kiddos over the holiday season and am so glad to be back with them!
Please note that there will be no spelling this week. We will start back into the regular spelling routine next week.
As well, beginning next week your child will be getting a weekly math problem to complete at home. This "problem of the week" is designed to have the kids practice various problem solving skills and strategies.
